Bug description: (yes the posts about this trait never end) The critical DAMAGE increase (Not chance) from the Critical Chaos trait is currently additive, on retail this is multiplicative as you can tell from the video (Patch shown at the end), on ask mrrobot you can see the formula was not changed throughout the patch cycle, only the critical chaos spell was made seperate instead of on the chaos strike spell.
On both patches the formula is as follows: 2 * 0.06 * ArtifactTraitRank(CriticalChaos)
On freakz (im assuming im not a dev): 2 + 0.06 * ArtifactTraitRank(CriticalChaos)

He is right, and if this turns out to be the problem it would explain why fire mages cant compete on dps since they also have critical DAMAGE traits that are additive instead of multiplicative.

Look at freakz critical damage on chaos strike, he has 5 traits in critical chaos:



191,620 highest hit
406,481 highest crit

with no traits it would be 383,240

with additive formula its 191,620*2.3= 440,726 (already higher than what you see in details! and its still the wrong formula)

with multiplicative formula (how it should be) its 191,620*2.6 = 498,212
So something is definitely wrong in the formula.

On retail, as you can see in original poster's video (he also has 5 points in critical chaos trait), he did 260,102 highest hit and 692k highest crit, which would be impossible with an additive formula.

This is only true to Critical Chaos. As AskMrRobot says when you hover on ExtraCritMultiplier, Blizzard uses "double" amounts sometimes. For example, check this out:

Tooltip says 6%, but the actual amount gives 12% with 1 trait.
This is completely logical, because the "CritBonus" is the damage bonus that gets added to the base damage. Meaning, if you hit for 100k, the crit damage bonus would be 100k.

So when we are talking about a multiplicative crit bonus, the final result should be 200k * (1 + 0.06) = 212k
But INSTEAD it is calculated like 100k + 100 * (1 + 2*0.06) = 100k + 112k = 212k.

The end result is ALWAYS the same, because the actual value is the double of the tooltip.

I have checked all other effects like this (you mentioned mage's traits, those are already implemented differently, for those type of auras, we combine them with the FINAL damage, not the crit bonus - which is usually equal to the original damage), and Critical Chaos is the one and only that differs in implementation from that seen on AskMrRobot. The rest is exactly how it should be. I wonder why didn't blizzard use the same "double" value trick here as well

Fking retarded blizzard and their inconsistencies. At any rate this should help demon hunter dps quite a bit. Fire mages can rip i guess xD

The worst is that they offer no information about these AT ALL. only way you can discover if a crit damage bonus is multiplier or additive is to actually try and see for yourself. Nonetheless I'll fix this
